Position Summary:

Our Marketing Internship has the potential to be a two-year program for students completing their sophomore year of college. Students will start in one of the marketing functions listed below and after 1 year, if interested, they will rotate to a different function of marketing to gain further insights and experience.

Must be available to work full-time during the summer and 20 hours during the school year.

As a Marketing intern, students will support one or more of the following functions: Digital Marketing, Category Development, Commercial Marketing, Consumer Marketing, Service Marketing, and/or Briggs & Stratton Power Products Marketing. Interns participate in a variety of rotational assignments in disciplines including but not limited to: web updates, email marketing campaign, report analysis, sales support, development of presentation materials, composing correspondence to OEMs, sales representatives, compile marketing research, trade show preparation. Students are given the opportunity to expand their basic knowledge in the areas of sales, marketing, and product development. Interns Interact with supervisors, project leaders, sales and marketing staff on a daily basis.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Digital Marketing – As a member of Briggs & Stratton’s Digital Marketing team, students will be responsible for supporting key projects such as e-mail marketing campaigns, website redesigns, social media campaigns and eCommerce sales. In doing so, students will be asked to work with key business stakeholders throughout the organization as well as external vendors to define project requirements and communicate project status.

  • Commercial Marketing - Assist Marketing Manager with tactical execution of marketing programs. As a key part of the Commercial Power marketing team, students will gain valuable insight into business-to-business sales support, customer support programs, digital initiatives (supporting vanguardengines.com), print collateral projects, public relations, and trade show / event marketing. Students will be expected to lead projects that require them to engage directly with field sales force and outside support teams such as advertising agencies, printers, research firms and ad specialty providers. Emphasis will be on “self-starter” approach, as such, students will be encouraged to take the lead on these projects.

  • Consumer Marketing - Students may work on advertising, public relations and other communications projects including updating web site content, editing and coordinating distribution of email newsletters, communicating with internal customers and outside vendors, creating customer presentations, coordinating engine and other photography, compiling marketing research data, developing new products and new product introductions and other projects.

  • Service Marketing - Support marketing activities including product development, market and competitive research, literature creation, online content management, spreadsheet design, sales tracking and trade show preparation; exposure to internal and external customer communications, as well as participate in cross-functional team meetings and projects

  • BSPP Marketing - Students will help develop various point-of-purchase materials, update web site content, do store walks to update/maintain comp shops for various product categories/retailers, coordinate product/application photo shoots, and assist with trade show planning; students will be expected to work closely with BSPP sales team and external vendors.

  • Category Development – Students will be assigned responsibilities that help support category development efforts corporate-wide, including end-product, engine, international and service areas; in addition to specific project work, students will be involved in activities such as posting information in the Category Fact Book, assisting in sales presentations, and creating/distributing market survey and power outage reports. Students will be exposed to a wide variety of marketing and data analysis tools

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested or required

Job Skills Requirements:

  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office software

  • Qualified candidates should have a long-term interest in a sales or sales and marketing career

  • Foreign language is a plus but not required with an emphasis on European and South American languages

Education Requirements:

  • Must be enrolled as a full-time student in an accredited college or university studying toward a Bachelor’s degree in general business management, international business, marketing, operations management or communications

  • Must complete the sophomore year in the major program of study prior to beginning the internship

  • Must have and maintain a minimum G.P.A. of 3.0/4.0

Experience Requirements:

  • This is an entry level position therefore previous experience is not required; Experience in a sales or marketing helpful
