Nursing Professional Development – HR Internship Program This position has access to and knowledge of extremely sensitive, private and confidential materials. Ability to maintain the highest standard is required with zero tolerance. All the primary duties within this document will be performed according to established policies, procedures and guidelines within the department and the Medical Center. JOB SUMMARY: Interns will be assigned to Nursing Professional Development where they will be given the opportunity to learn about nursing, nursing professional development, and nursing leadership. Interns will gain experience and confidence about the role of a nurse and professional nursing practice. Interns will participate in hands-on learning experiences under the guidance of the nursing educators. Interns will also participate in projects selected by the manager of Nursing Professional Development. PRIMARY JOB DUTIES: 1. Work with the Nursing Professional Development team on projects, classes, education, nursing orientation, and simulation 2. Participate in orientation design for newly-hired nurses 3. Shadow nurse educators as they work with nursing staff 4. Participate in and design simulation scenarios 5. Will present on a project at the completion of internship 6. Demonstrates standard of performance (ownership, teamwork communication, compassion) that support patient satisfaction and principles of service excellence 7. Performs other duties as assigned. 1. Education: High School diploma or GED required. Must be enrolled in an undergraduate nursing program and earned enough credit hours to be a junior or senior. 2. Licensure / Certifications: None 3. Experience: None ESSENTIAL JOB SPECIFICATIONS: Prerequisite skills, competencies, knowledge Junior or Senior Undergraduate Nursing Student with an interest in nursing education and professional development. Demonstrate ability to work with others in a positive and effective manner. (Minimum of Two Learning Goals with Objectives) Learning Goal: Objectives: Gain insight into the practice of professional nursing Work with the Nursing Professional Development team on projects, classes, education, nursing orientation, and simulation Develop the use of critical thinking skills in the clinical setting Participate in and design simulation scenarios Participate in orientation design for newly-hired nurses Attend nursing orientation conferences Shadow nurse educators as they work with nursing staff Complete clinical tracers on patient care units Understand the role of a nurse leader in the hospital setting Attend weekly leader huddles with the Chief Nursing Officer Shadow manager of Nursing Professional Development Participate in Lean A3 events as needed
